My recent history
I just want to give a little background into who I am and what I have been doing.
I am a mental health nurse. Personally, I detest the term Psych Nurse. To me nursing is about helping people find their road to improving their health, hence the preference for the term 'mental health.'
It took me about 14 years to get through my Bachelor's degree. Life kind of got in the way and I had some really important detours centered upon having a family. I am married to a wonderful man (Shaun) and we have 2 amazing kids. Kayden is 16 and Kaitlyn is 12. Currently, I homeschool my daughter while my son does online school. It is a challenge, but so worth it. I can't believe how fast time is flying by and how little time left I have with my kids as minors.
Professionally, I spent the longest amount of time working at a treatment center with at-risk youth. I loved them. I learned so much from them, and my heart has a very soft place for these kids who go through so much.
I have also worked with women and girls with eating disorders. My heart aches for the struggles they have and am grateful for the chances I have had to serve and to listen.
It has been about 1 1/2 years since I have had a nursing job. I wanted to start my business as a health coach. I feel very passionately about preventing dis-ease through lifestyle modifications and addressing emotional and spiritual needs. I have found a new non-traditional avenue to pursue in being self-employed. I will get into this later. I will explain more on this later.
I have been taught much by my professional experience. I have been taught to look beyond the obvious, to not stop at a difficult behavior and to look at what is going on behind that behavior. I have been taught about empathy, about love, about strength and survival. I have been taught that every interaction that we have with others truly matters. I have been taught how emotions and spirituality affect our health and wellness. I have been taught to follow my intuition as much or more as the obvious facts right in front of my face. I have been taught that God is the true healer, and if we push Him out of the equation, we are only hurting ourselves.
Life has been amazing, and I love the lessons I have experienced. I can't wait for what is next.
